Ecotourism Business Development (EBD) Participants enjoyed the study Tour/Field Trip
The participants who followed the EBD programme, conducted by the Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation
(SLEF) went on a field trip and overnight camping during the week end. The field trip is an integral component of the
EBD programme which meant for educate the participants on diverse subjects in Ecotourism such as Community Camping,
Renewable Energy Sources, Forests and Wildlife, Ecolodges and Community Based Ecotourism Projects in Sri Lanka.
The field trip also provided an excellent opportunity for the participants to gain a site-specific training and
experience on ecotourism and sustainable tourism.
The participants for EBD Programme was drawn from a cross section of travel and tourism industry in Sri Lanka such as
Travel and Tourism Marketing/Planning Executives and decision makers, Adventure and Nature based Tour Operators,
University Students, Teachers, Researchers, Practicing National Tourist Guide Lecturers, Guest Houses, Restaurants,
Ecolodge owners, Travel journalists in Electronic and Print media. EBD is a fast track programme on Ecotourism
Certification which covers 35 modules on all important areas related to ecotourism in 50 hours
lecture/presentation series spreading over 3 months.
During the Field Trip participants had an opportunity to study hydro power generation plant at Samanala Wewa,
trekking in Bambarakanda Falls, camping by the Hirikatuoya close to non-perial forest at Belihuloya,
visiting of Walawa Nadee Model Ecotourism Project and go on a jungle River Safari at Walawe River and
visiting of an up market Ecolodge located in the vicinity of Kalametiya Strict Nature Reserve and Bird's Park.
Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation (SLEF) is the pioneer national ecotourism organization in
Sri Lanka dedicated to promote Ecotourism Research, Training and Education.
