Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation (SLEF), conducted a two day Workshop Programme on ‘Renewable Energy’ for the final year engineering students of the Jayawardenapura University as proposed by the Faculty of Technology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, under the Energy and Environmental Technology Stream, on the 27th and 28th August, 2019

The Objectives of the Workshop Programme is to offer hands-on-experience on ‘Renewable Energy’ for the students. During past 20 years SLEF has conducted diverse Research and Training Programmes and Workshops, Study Tours and Field Trips in Tourism, Ecotourism, Renewable Energy for the National Chauffeur Tourist Guide Lecturers, Area and Site Tourist Guides activists of Community Based Ecotourism Projects, University Students and academia, staffs and officials of national and international NGOs, Executives of Destination Management Companies, private and public sector tourism organizations etc. Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation, (SLEF), the pioneer National Ecotourism Society of Sri Lanka was the first ‘Sri Lanka Tourism Award Winner’ for ‘Best Initiative for Ecotourism Research, Training and Education in Sri Lanka’

Renewable Energy is becoming the fastest growing energy resource around the World. In Sri Lanka too there are many projects including Tourism being implemented with application of renewable energy resources. At the Workshop the Resource Persons were drawn from their expertise fields, contributed through in-depth presentations on Solar, Wind, Hydro-Power, Biomass, Bio fuels, Sea Wave etc. Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation made a Presentation highlighting the ‘Renewable Energy and Tourism Industry’ as the day of the Workshop coincided with the “World Tourism Day-2019’

It is reported that 16% of the global final energy consumptions is derived from Renewable Energy.
The Workshop Programme would be immensely help the students in widening their knowledge in ‘Renewable Energy’, in addition to what they have learned at the class rooms. The SLEF also facilitated a field visits to the SLEF Head Office for the students so that they could to be oriented with the operational aspects of Net Metering Solar Systems, Hybrid Wind Power systems, and Off-Grid Solar System that are installed at the SLEF Office.
Dr. Udara Sampath, Senior Lecturer, Department of Engineering Technology, Sri Jayawardenepura University, Eng. Sena Peiris, Vice-President of Sri Lanka Ecotourism Foundation, Palitha Gurusinghe, President, SLEF and Mr. Udaya Hettigoda, Director, Hettigoda Technologies coordinated the Workshop Programme and the Field Visits.
